A Tale of Two Communities (2017)
During my senior year at Williams College, I pursued a senior research thesis in the history department under Professor Karen Merrill. In this year long project, I examined the identity of Forest Hills, NY from a historical and demographical perspective to better understand its trajectory during the late twentieth century. My thesis was recognized by the history department and won the Robert C. L. Scott Essay Prize for best senior thesis in U.S. or European history.

If
By Aglaia Ho If it began with two innocent eyes, Staring in the midst of quarrel, Harsh words, stern faces, an 'I hate you' and a goodbye, But then they learn to love, A smile, a laugh, a hug and a kiss, And now two young eyes. If it began with two young eyes, Staring into the schoolyard fight, Fists, punches, taunts, and tears. But then they learn to care, A handshake, an 'I'm sorry,' a crying shoulder, and a new friend, And now two mature eyes. If it began with two mature eyes, Staring in the bloodshed of war, Bullets, bombs, heartache, and death. But then they learn to tolerate, A mutual hello, a compromise, a peace, and an alliance, And now two new eyes Open to the harmony of our world. |
Forever!
By Aglaia Ho The birds chirp waking the morning sun, As it lifts over the golden horizon. The frogs croak engaging the evening moon, As it rises to the peak of the earth. The trees dance loving the gentle breeze. As it sweeps by playing a chasing game. While the flowers cling to their petals, Determined to hold tight to their beauty. The leaves glide enjoying the paddleboat ride, While the dandelions set off for an adventure, Determined to find a brand new life. At last you'll see, What magic means Through Mother Nature's eyes. I Shall Never Forget (Dedicated to my dog Bruno)
By Aglaia Ho The glisten of his dark, brown eyes, That twinkled laughter into my life, The silky touch of his golden fur, That I embraced every morning and night in turn, The memorable embalmment of his bark, That echoed in my home when he longed for attention, The gentle warmth of his affectionate soul, That kindled my heart when I lamented, I'll never forget. The way he grasped opportunity, To love and to console, The way he taught me wisely, To take hold of everyday, The way that he watched over me, Like my guardian, my friend, my dog, I shall never forget. |
