This year, I was welcomed back on campus by the autumn, by the best season at Williams. The weather is neither frigid and brutal nor sweltering and humid. The average temperature sits comfortably somewhere in between with early mornings being slightly chilly, but the air warming up with the daytime sunshine. This is the time when you can finally walk outside in just your purple and yellow hoodie, sporting your school’s pride, yet still dressed appropriately for the weather.
I am very fortunate to spend half of my year in one of the most beautiful places in the country: the Berkshires. This rural, tranquil range of woods and mountains is such a stark difference from what I am used to back home. Initially coming to Williams College, I was concerned that the environment would be enough of a culture shock to send me running back to my urban sanctuary. This wounded up being partially true. The idea of living out in the boonies where the population of cows trumps that of humans made me terribly homesick. However, with time, I have come to appreciate the experience as a once in a lifetime opportunity to live outside of my comfort zone.
